Washing Smarter – What Does It All Mean?

Washing Smarter??

What’s a Wilmington based power washing company have to do with being wise, you say?  Well, WISE WASH believes in using the best and latest in power washing technology to maximize effectiveness and cleaning power without destroying our customer’s property.  Exterior cleaning has come a long way since power washing was introduced around 1926.  Gone are the days of blasting algae off a house with the highest PSI you could afford.  Using PSI only tends to do lots of damage the cleaning surface.  Today, we prefer to use the glory of science to do most of the work for us.  And that equals washing smarter.

Amateur Hire – Getting What You Pay For

Electric WasherWISE WASH uses only top of the line commercial equipment.  When the public at large began to use pressure washers sold at the big box stores, the main focus of cleaning was on the PSI (pounds per square inch).  Even today, those same stores advertise the psi in bold print to attract consumers to buy their product; and people still buy them.  They believe blasting off the dirt and algae is the best way to go.  There are even some amateur washers who buy these machines and advertise themselves as professionals.

So heed this warning; if someone you’ve just hired shows up at the job site with a roll-a-way washer from Home Depot, please stop them in their tracks and ask some very important questions.  First, “why the cheap machine if you are a legitimate business?”  And second, “how are you going to remove the dirt and algae exactly? Blast it off… along with my paint and siding?”  Please be aware that these “washers” are out there, and they constantly try to undercut and underbid real professional washers.

The Real Deal Holyfield

Admittedly, measuring cleaning power by psi can be a factor in the overall decision of purchasing a quality power washer.  It definitely comes in handy when cleaning hard and impervious surfaces like concrete, metal, etc.  But it certainly isn’t the first thing a professional will focus on.

In modern times, professionals tend to prioritize quality machines based on GPM, or gallons per minute.  The major difference between the two is that GPM measures the volume of water that exits the machine pump as opposed to the amount of pressure that it builds up and spits out.

For example, a pressure washer that pumps a volume of 2.3 GPM at 4000 PSI may wash the paint right off of your brand new car, but it won’t reach the second story of your house.  Whereas a quality machine that pumps 8 GPM but only 3500 PSI will reach the upper heights of a three story building.

I know, I know… you’re asking yourself how in the world does it do a better job of actually cleaning when it doesn’t use as much force?  Well stay tuned my curious friend… stay tuned.

More Than Meets The Eye

Doesn’t more pressure equal a better clean???  The simple answer is no, it doesn’t!  In fact, applying pressurized water to a surface area may remove the dust, dirt and algae that lay on top, but it doesn’t actually kill any of the organic growth at the root level.

Mildew, mold and algae will still be present but not able to be seen with the naked eye.  That’s why WISE WASH uses the best tools and techniques mastered by other great industry professionals (like Michael Hinderliter) in years past to get the best possible clean… that stays clean.  Washing Smarter means taking the knowledge that has been tested time and time again and applying it to every single wash we do.

Chemistry Meets Washery

I’m not totally sure washery is a word but it fits perfectly.  Over these past 90+ years of washing innovation, there have been many breakthroughs in the exterior cleaning process.  Not the least of which is the addition of certain grime fighting treatments (yes, I meant to say grime; it was a pun).

Just like washing clothes, certain stains require specific cleaners.  There isn’t a one size fits all solution.  There is, however, an answer for almost every type of stain.  The key is to know what chemical works best with what stain.  And that’s where WISE WASH shines above the rest.  We are called WISE WASH because we have studied and researched what works best for each job.

If it’s organic growth such as mold, mildew or algae, a commercial grade cleaner that kills the organism at its root is needed.  Rust stains require special acids to neutralize the iron within them.  Oil in the driveway or at a gas station?  Specialized industrial strength chemicals will lift it right up off the concrete if performed correctly.

No Plants Were Harmed In The Making Of This Blog

It’s true! WISE WASH cares about our environment and safety is always paramount.  Most of the treatments we use are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

Those few that aren’t are used sparingly and disposed of properly, all while taking the greatest of care not to harm anyone or anything.  The damage that can be done to the health of our customers from breathing in the spores of mold and mildew should far exceed any concern for our cleaning process.  We take great pride in making sure that no plants, trees, grass or any other kind of vegetation is damaged while we wash.  The only organic material we kill is the harmful kind; the algae family.

The Wrap Up – What’s In It For You?

WISE WASH is customer-centric.  That means we always focuses on our clients’ individual needs. We listen to exactly what you need done, how you’d like it to be completed, and what time frame we are working in and always work within your budget.

Most importantly, we take our time with each job because we know that every wash is unique and attention to detail is vital.  Customer retention means we make it a point to earn your business… and keep it.  We do that by having a strong work ethic and never sacrificing quality for time.  And for us… that means Washing Smarter.
